Come along and join our discussion group at vhs club INTERNATIONAL! A short introductory presentation will offer insight into select issues and current topics in US society and culture. The following discussion will offer a great and fun way to practice your English language skills on an advanced level and to learn about different perspectives. Everyone is welcome. You don’t have to be an expert on the US, just bring an open mind and plenty of questions!

The First Lady has little say in US politics - yet Jackie Kennedy, Hillary Clinton, or Michelle Obama have left their mark in American culture. This presentation examines the discourses around First Ladies and how they create their own personas on the job. We discuss the power of style or their cultural diplomacy skills and relate the First Lady to narratives about white womanhood and domesticity in American culture, with an additional glance at the First Lady’s role in the 2024 Presidential Elections.
