English Book-Talks If you enjoy reading and talking about literature, join our weekly meeting of bookworms! Please bring your own copy of the book, your ideas and your questions! Newcomers are always welcome! In Kooperation mit der Stadtbibliothek Erlangen

Do you enjoy reading and talking about literature? Then join our weekly meeting of bookworms! Bring your book, your ideas and your questions! Newcomers are always welcome! Cry, the Beloved Country, a 1948 novel by writer Alan Paton, remains one of the best-known works of South African literature. It is a social protest against the structures of the society that would later give rise to apartheid. Paton attempts to create an unbiased and objective view of the dichotomies it entails, depicting whites as affected by “native crime” while blacks suffer from instability and moral issues due to the breakdown of the tribal system.

Let`s talk about: Military Families
Mi. 10.01.2024 19:15 Uhr
Dr. Katharina Gerund
Kursnummer 23W155009

Come along and join our new discussion group at vhs club INTERNATIONAL! A short introductory presentation will offer insight into select issues and current topics in US society and culture – ranging from well-known historical figures to contemporary popular culture and political events. The following discussion will offer a great and fun way not only to practice your English language skills on an advanced level, but also to exchange ideas, and to learn about different perspectives. Everyone is welcome. You don’t have to be an expert on the US, just bring an open mind and plenty of questions! U.S. military families are often featured prominently at political events, in campaign speeches, and in contemporary popular culture. They can act as “unofficial ambassadors” abroad and have contributed to U.S. war efforts at the home front. We will discuss recent representations of military families in political discourse and in (popular) culture with an eye to their various forms, functions, and effects. In Kooperation mit dem Deutsch-Amerikanischen Institut
