Wir bereisen symbolisch die Mittelmeerinseln, Kanada, die Karibik, Südafrika, Indien, Hongkong, Australien, Neuseeland und die Pazifischen Inseln. Informative Lesetexte sowie Übungen zum Hörverständnis und Wiederholungen der Grammatik dienen als Grundlage für die Verbesserung der Sprachfertigkeit, die in diesem Kurs im Vordergrund stehen soll. This course offers the language needed for effective communication with citizens, clients and colleagues. Technical terms dealing with important topics related to public administration and intercultural competence are included.

It is not about the perfect use of grammar or about learning long lists of vocabulary, instead we will focus on effective cross-cultural communication. Topics will be: communication strategies, real world email writing, speaking and the lost word, supporting your English with Powerpoint, polite interruptions, how to learn while working, discussing projects and the failed plan. Skill level required: higher B1 or lower B2 level.

In this course we'll talk about different topics, you'll have the chance to discuss, give opinions and expand your vocabulary in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Remember the time your guide in London suggested a tour off the beaten track, and you agreed—only to realize you wouldn’t see the famous landmarks after all? Or when your friend said he had itchy feet, and you had no clue what he meant? And what about that moment your colleague called you a “big cheese,” or your sister told you to spill the beans—though you weren’t even cooking? If this sounds familiar, you’re in the right place. In Between the Lines: Fun with Idioms, we’ll tame the wild world of English idioms together. In just 45 minutes per session, you’ll decode tricky expressions, practice using them in everyday conversation, and share a laugh along the way. By the end, you won’t just understand idioms—you’ll be able to drop them into your speech naturally, just like a native. This course is designed for participants with approximately B2/C1 level or above.

Kleingruppe 5 bis 8 Teilnehmer*innen Start your week right: In this course, we will explore the expressions and language that are useful in everyday life. The themes discussed will be varied and include travelling, ordering food in a restaurant, email communication, expressing agreement and disagreement and describing personality traits, amongst others. The focus will be on increasing vocabulary as well as some grammar corrections as needed, with the goal of increasing fluency and confidence. The course topics are flexible and can be adapted to participants' interests and needs, and of course to our Monday morning moods. Participants should be comfortable in communicating in English, ideally level C1, however, motivated participants and those eager for a challenge from all levels are welcome. Participants are kindly requested to bring 4 euros to the first class to cover material costs.

This course is for those who have already attained a high level of English but wish to improve their oral skills even more. Not only will we read and discuss interesting newspaper articles, texts and literary excerpts, but we will work on vocabulary, formal and informal, the idiomatic language and intercultural aspects. Newcomers are very welcome. Course materials will be provided.

Thinking of taking your English B2 knowledge to the higher level of C1 - then this course is what you are looking for. Targets: Enhancing your spoken language to be clear and concise, written English will also include basic business tasks (reports, minutes etc.). Understanding authentic reading texts/newspapers/reports. Boosting your listening skills. Building a wide range of vocabulary and more complex collocations. Applying sophisticated language structures in verbal and written communication. Getting down to the nitty-gritty of some grammar. C1 level is a whole new ball game and great fun. Book/material: will be discussed on the first evening.

Interesting topics provide the background to this course which aims to encourage and develop your conversational skills. We will use a variety of sources e.g. newspaper/magazine articles for discussions, vocabulary and grammar games for extending vocabulary and improving sentence structure and many more acitvites.
