Come along and join our new discussion group at vhs club INTERNATIONAL! A short introductory presentation will offer insight into select issues and current topics in US society and culture – ranging from well-known historical figures to contemporary popular culture and political events. The following discussion will offer a great and fun way not only to practice your English language skills on an advanced level, but also to exchange ideas, and to learn about different perspectives. Everyone is welcome. You don’t have to be an expert on the US, just bring an open mind and plenty of questions! U.S. military families are often featured prominently at political events, in campaign speeches, and in contemporary popular culture. They can act as “unofficial ambassadors” abroad and have contributed to U.S. war efforts at the home front. We will discuss recent representations of military families in political discourse and in (popular) culture with an eye to their various forms, functions, and effects.
