About this book:
Knowing that his life is coming to a close in 1956, the Reverend John Ames begins a letter to his son. He reflects on his relationship with God and recounts the life stories of his father and grandfather. The nature of the bonds between fathers and sons, the role of religion in the Midwest as well as the historical struggles over whether Kansas should be a free state or a slave state during the Civil War all play a role in his account.
